ONDO 2016:WHY JEGEDE CAN'T CONTEST AS PDP FLAGBEARER

The chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State, Prince Biyi Poroye has insisted that political godson of Governor Olusegun Mimiko who was forced on the party as candidate, Eyitayo Jegede (SAN) "is not a card carrying member of the party, and therefore not qualify to stand for any elective position on the platform of PDP."

Poroye said he continued to wonder about a statement credited to Jegede, quoting him as saying that the authentic candidate of PDP for the November 26, 2016 Gubernatorial election, Dr. Jimoh Ibrahim (CFR) is not member of the party, stressing that the case is liken a thief accusing the rightful owner of a property.

The chairman stated this in a statement signed by PDP Director of Media/Publicity in the State, Yemi Akintomide and made available to newsmen in Akure, the state capital, on Tuesday.

He further disclosed that Jegede was not qualified to contest the governorship poll having run fowl of the constitution of PDP which made it mandatory for a member to attain two year membership status before veiling for an election.

"The truth of the matter is that Jegede joined our party in November 2014 alongside his boss governor Mimiko when the later abandoned his Labour Party (LP) platform which he used to win the 2007 election and a second term in 2012. Even as that, Jegede only came into the new party as a technocrat working with the governor as Commissioner for Justice and Attoney-General and not as a card carry member of any political party, not even LP.

"And if by now, he like to join PDP as a member and want to contest any election, he will apply for waiver to the state chapter through his ward chairman, then, I as the state chairman reserve the right to grant the waiver or reject it.

"You now wonder how can that person now turn around to say an outstanding leader and promoter of the party in the state, Barrister Jimoh Ibrahim is not a member; somebody who single-handedly brought twenty-two 18-seater Toyota buses for the party and gave each of the 18 local government areas N10 million to run the party offices in the council areas. Even the governor himself is yet to beat this record in the history of running the affair of a political party in this state," the statement read in part.

Poroye however, berated some leaders of the party in the state who he said betrayed their Senatorial Districts by abandoning the struggle, they vowed to protect the right of their people to the governorship seat;  but shamefully aligned with governor Mimiko to retain the slot for the Central Senatorial District after the governor had spent an unprecedented eight years of two terms.

"But as God will have it, Barrister Jimoh Ibrahim secured the PDP ticket from the Southern Senatorial District when it became imperative that the people of Ondo State are ready to rotate the slot to either North or South through their votes if PDP, the ruling party refuses to shift ground for other Districts.

"That is the reason the people are happy now that Barrister Jimoh Ibrahim is the candidate of PDP and they're ready to vote for him on November 26 as the next governor of the state in place of a stooge forceful push forward to distort the rotational arrangement on ground as if other District are slaves to the Central", Poroye stated.

  1. First of all,the only recognised PDP chairman in ondo state is the All-Strategician Clement Faboyede, igodomigodo 1 of ondo PDP,therefore no other person is recognised ,rendering this post invalid in the first place.also your acclaimed candidate Mr jimoh ibrahim is still a registered member of the accord party which he publicly declared not long ago,I then wonder when the metamorphosis to PDP took place.
Barr.Eyitayo Jegede SAN is the God's anointed candidate and Ondo state will stand by Him
