As the campaign train of Ondo Alliance for Democracy moves to Ese-Odo Local Government of Ondo State,the party's candidate, Chief Olusola Oke has lamented the state of neglect in the riverine area of Ondo State by the Mimiko-led administration.
Oke said the condition of the people in Ese-Odo have been inflicted with poverty which has resulted to underdevelopment in the area.
He
also promised to make the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) more alive
to its responsibility of redressing the neglect, suffering and impoverishments associated
with the oil rich riverine areas of the State.
Chief Oke, Who spoke in Agbadagba Obon and
Arogobo communities in Ese Odo Local Government Area of the State during his
campaign tours of the area yesterday regretted that the neglect of the area and
its attendant hardship had left people of the area wallowing in poverty
assuring that his administration would ensure that both the NNDC and the State
representative in the Commission made more responsible.
The
AD governorship hopeful also promised to reposition the Ondo State Oil
Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC) to return it to a productive
development agency for the provision of necessary amenities and
life-transforming projects in the riverine areas.
Oke
himself a former NDDC commissioner and also a former OSOPADEC Chairman, spoke
in response to the requests of the communities which included construction of
link bridge between Agadagba and Arogbo; connection of the riverine communities
to the national grid for electricity supply and dredging of waterways for easy
transportation assured that the development projects in the area would be a
priority.
Other
demands of the Ijaw-speaking people who trooped out in their hundreds included
provision of potable water scheme to stem the tide of water-borne diseases;
provision of agric settlement/village for food provison and empowerment;
development of new town at Uparama; healthcare and education facilities and
institutions.
He urged the people: "We should not allow retardation. We should not allow the wheels of progress roll backwards, hence the need to vote for the AD to redress all the wrong, neglect and injustice.
"Since former Governor Olusegun Agagu left office in 2009, what this area has seen is total neglect. Nothing has been added to the roads, water jetty, health facilities etc put in place. Everything stopped where Agagu left it. Today, the roads are even wearing out and need attention. AD will give you the much-desired attention," Oke said
