Popular reality show, Big Brother Nigeria, is set to return to the screen. MultiChoice Nigeria has announced the return of the reality TV show based on the Big Brother TV series. Now referred to as Big Brother Naija, the show will air on dedicated event channels on DStv and GOtv in January 2017.
Speaking about this development, the Managing Director, MultiChoice Nigeria, Mr. John Ugbe said the comeback of the show is one of the ways the company is enhancing the quality and variety of content available on its platforms.
He also said the show has been well developed following the successes of past seasons of Big Brother Africa.

“Big Brother Africa was popular for its entertainment value and ability to showcase ordinary Africans from different walks of life. We decided to re-invent the reality show once again by bringing back the Nigerian version which we are confident will draw pan-African audiences for the same reasons that Big Brother Africa did”, said Ugbe.
Auditions for Big Brother Naija will kick off on Saturday and Sunday 26th and 27th, 2016, in Lagos State.
The winning prize is however not yet concluded as organizers are still crossing their ‘ts and dotting their ‘I’.
In the first edition of the show, 12 housemates vied for the coveted $100,000 prize money by performing various mental and physical tasks. At the end of a three-month stay in the house, Katung Aduwak emerged winner.  The show also produced other notable stars such as Africa Magic’s Tinsel actor, Gideon Okeke. The Nigeria version took a break ten years ago after Katung Aduwak won.

ONDO 2016: MARKET WOMEN RALLY SUPPORT FOR OKE

The candidate of the Alliance for Democracy in the November 26.governorship election in Ondo state has   recently been enjoying endorsements from  different organizations in the state. Among those numerous organizations are the Market women in Akure, the Ondo State capital,  who have thrown their support for the ambition of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) governorship candidate, Chief Olusola Oke,  in order to ensure victory in the November 26 election.

This was just as the Deji of Akure, Oba Ogunlade Aladetoyinbo, lauded the AD candidate for his "high integrity", which he described as an outstanding leadership quality.

Oba Aladetoyinbo, who spoke in his palace while playing host to Oke's campaign train, said the AD candidate's qualities accounted for how the party has spread like wild bushfire in the short time that he joined the party.

The monarch who canvassed violence-free polls, expressed the belief that Akure indigenes were supportive of Oke's ambition because of his behavior, attitude and integrity.

Oke's campaign train, which snaked through the popular Oja Oba Market in the commercial nerve of the capital city, was received amidst applause and ovation by marketmen and women who thronged out in their numbers to receive him.

The Erelu-Iyaloja of Akure and head of Marketwomen, Chief Mrs M. A. Adekanye, who expressed the traders' support for Oke, said their action was hinged on the prosperity of the land and its people.

Adekanye, who led other Iyalojas and marketwomen to pray for the success of the AD in the governorship election, said principal among wishes of the traders was a responsible government that would make life worth living for the citizenry and as well re-ignite activities that would empower the people and awaken commerce in the capital city and other parts of the state.

Oke, who said AD was revived to bail Ondo State out of its present predicament occasioned by bad leadership in the last seven and half years, said votes for AD would bring about transformation of Ondo State and revival and resuscitation of ailing and dead industries in the state with a view to creating employment, wealth and better life for the people.

Oke pledged transformation and special attention to Akure in view of its place as capital city and support for him.

While reacting to the loud ovation that greeted his train in different parts of the state capital, the AD flagbearer said: "The agenda of Akure people is development and transformation. The implication is that they are setting agenda for the incoming AD government.

"I can see dust everywhere. I can see broken promises. I have promised them better deal and I will surpass their expectations. Akure people have confidence in me thus the ovation wherever I go," Oke said.

ONDO STATE MUSLIM COMMUNITY BACKS OLUSOLA OKE

The Muslim Community in Ondo State has expressed delight with the choice of a Moslem, Alhaji Ganny Dauda, as the deputy governorship candidate of Alliance for Democracy (AD).

The Chief Imam of Akure, Alhaji Abdulazeez Yayi-Akorede, lauded the AD and its governorship candidate, Chief Olusola Oke, for recognising Moslems with the deputy governorship slot.

Yayi-Akorede, who spoke at the Akure Central Mosque when some Moslem leaders played host to Oke, said Moslems in the state would not have anything to do with political parties that didn't recognise Moslems as he promised to reach out to other Moslem groups and organisations on the need to vote AD in the November 26 election.

Among the three leading political parties - AD, PDP and APC -  in the race for the Alagbaka Government House, only AD nominated a Moslem as running mate.

The cleric, who said some politicians had promised and disappointed Moslems in the past, urged Oke not to relent on his good deeds.

Speaking, former National President of Muslim Students' Society of Nigeria, Alhaji Sirajudeen Abdulazeez, advised Oke to address all injustice meted to Moslems in the state.

Abdulazeez said the various political imbalances done Moslems in the state must be corrected by the AD government for it to continue to enjoy the support of Moslems.

Oke, who said Dauda's emergence as running mate was divine, stressed the need for balance between the two major political parties - Christianity and Islamic.

The AD candidate while appreciating the role of Moslems and the efficacy of their prayers in ensuring good moral upbringing, peace and development, assured that his government would always accord them their due regard and recognition.

Oke said: "The AD is out to bail Ondo State out of the poverty and hunger ravaging it in spite of its vast natural endowments".

According to him, any society where poverty takes higher percentage is prone to

POLICE RECRUITMENT:AFENIFERE REJECTS LGAs AS BASIS OF RECRUITMENT

The attention of Afenifere has been drawn to the simmering crisis between the Senate Committee on Police Affairs and the Police Service Commission(PSC) which led to the suspension of the recruitment of 10,000 personnel into the Police Force in September .

While the PSC insisted that the process should follow the constitutional provision of equality of states in line with the principle of federal character ,the Senator Abu Ibrahim-led committee wanted the recruitment to be done on the basis of local governments .The Senate Committee also insisted that the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) should supervise the exercise as against the PSC which is statutorily saddled with such responsibility.

The suspension of the exercise was to allow the President to mediate in the dispute between the two bodies .

To the consternation of all believers in constitutional rule the Senate Committee recently announced that the President has ruled in its favour .
We reject this blatant violation of the principle of federal character and the constitutional process on the alter of political and sectional expediency .

The implication of what is about to happen is that while Lagos with a bigger population than Kano has only 20 LGs and and the latter 44,the state that generates 69% of the total VAT revenue in the country will have only 180 men as against 396 from Kano on the basis of 9 per LG being recommended for rank and file recruitment.

An oil-bearing state like Bayelsa contributing substantially to the federation pool from which these officers would be paid has only 8 LGS and will have only 72 men,Jigawa that is not known to bring anything to the pool at the moment would have 234 men based on its 26LGs.

There is nothing that justifies these disparities than the politics of domination and conquest that is at the heart of the volatile injustice embedded in our prebendal politics in Nigeria.

The creation of LGs were done over the years whimsically and capriciously by hegemonic military adventurers with no sense of justice and fairness but sectional considerations.

And this is the major reason why the whole idea of Local Government Autonomy going on has been seen by the discerning as a way of turning us into a federation of 774 "states" with all the inbuilt inequalities and domination.

We insist that the exercise must follow the laid down regulation of the principle of federal character with states as the basis .Even at that it is not a hidden fact that a zone has seven states while one has 5!

The larger picture this whole controversy has thrown up is that we cannot continue to ignore the resolution of our nationality question as a country if we want to live in peace, harmony and give a sense of belonging to every section of the country. The current zero-sum template has its expiry date.
